Obama Drops the Boom; Iowa Hearts Huckabee
If America is satisfied with the status quo, don't tell that to Iowans.
In a shocking result at the Iowa Caucus, Sen. Barack Obama and Gov. Mike Huckabee came away with as big winners and should be beneficiaries of the infamous "bounce" going into New Hampshire.
Meanwhile Chris Dodd and Joe Biden announce their departure from the B-team.
As for the original leaders, Hillary Clinton is crushed with a third-place finish and now her status as party favorite has been officially dashed.
Rudy Giuliani, who finished sixth, basically told Iowa to piss off and later said that he did that to prove he could run a 50-state campaign....Yeah....Despite the former GOP party leaders recent slide to Huckabee and Gov. Mitt Romney, ol Rudy continues to saddle up and ride on....and boast about 9-11.
"On Sept. 11, I was worried," he said. "The way I approach politics, you don't worry about these things; you deal with them. We are behind in several of the early states. We're still ahead in many more states than any other candidate. I think we're ahead in something like 16 or 18 states. My closest competitor is ahead in four states."
Ahh yes, denial is a river separating Brooklyn and Manhattan.
Romney, joins Giuliani in denial and even declares that Iowa result not disappointing despite spending six times as much money in Iowa as Huckabee and running negative ads against the Senator.
McCain? Thompson? They are still treading water.
But Ron Paul? He's happy with a fifth place finish. And MySpace proves the Congressman's internet appeal is stronger than ever.
Off to New Hampshire they go!
