Know Your Candidate: Michael Charles Smith

This is the first in an extended series to get to know your Republican candidates.

Dave and I have decided to give nice and slightly cynical background checks on all the candidates for the Presidency in 2008.

I've decided to work my way from the bottom up because if I wait on a candidate like Michael Charles Smith, he might drop out.

To Smith's credit, the Oregon native is hopeful that he'll just pick up enough electorates to be a delegate at the Republican National Convention a.k.a Caucasian Freaknik '08.

Smith also has other positives including a pretty solid website URL -- http://www.smithforpresident.com -- this is the type of website that he could sell for big bucks in case there's a "Smith" that ever runs with a realistic chance to earn the presidency.

A quick check on Smith's MySpace page shows that this Republican is deeper than his wide collection of t-shirts and apparel.

Smith lists great presidents such as Teddy Roosevelt and Dwight Eisenhower as his heroes and guys who stood up for traditional Republican values like individual liberty and opportunity for all, not just those already successful, but the poor and minorities. He isn't anti-tax as he believes that there is good value in a government that provides good education, clean streets, etc. etc.

Basically today's Republicans would describe Smith as a "pussy" and would probably discredit him by claiming he's fathered a hispanic child or something.

Smith is undeterred by these potential pitfalls and goes even farther by attacking the neo cons at their core, questioning their true intentions and saying they have fueled paranoia and catered to big business.

Before you think Smith is getting all soft and a little too left-leaning, he also has disagreements with the Democratic Party, saying they look to government too much to solve problems and states his belief as the government who governs best, governs least.

At the end of the day one could classify Smith as a moderate....The type of candidate that everyone wants but no one ever votes for. I don't understand why people like Smith even bother running for a party that hates every pro-liberty, anti-big business bone in his body. He has zero chance of winning and less chance of actually getting into a party debate without a ticket and proper identification.

And that's not a good thing.

Biden Lays Low...

Articulate Joe Biden took a page out of his own Democratic Playbook by finding any thing said and make it be racist. Unfortunately, he didn't think that his own party would fire back.

Biden forgot about the democrats ripping each other apart at the beginning of 2004.

Apparently, the Democrats are starting their brainwashing campaign early, which is a sure sign that once again, people will forget about Biden's remarks as the 2008 primaries will heat up.

So give it a couple of weeks, and another candidate will say something stupid.

Time: Pro-Gay Republicans Are The New Thing...

...Time confirms it.

Despite being pro-gay rights, pro-choice and a proven filanderer who used his cancer treatment as a excuse for boning some office staffer (who is now wife No. 3 or maybe his more recent ex-wife, I forget), Republicans love their man!

Note: I don't mention Rudy's social stances because I disagree with them, quite the contrary. I point them out because this is the first sign that the extreme right is losing the country they've held hostage for the last 8 years.

Everything's Fine...

...just ignore the smoke in the sky.

From CNN last night our esteemed (and elegant, I give her that) first lady says:
"And many parts of Iraq are stable now. But, of course, what we see on television is the one bombing a day that discourages everybody."

So outside of the fact that the VP was targeted and 23 soldiers died it's all good? That one incident alone shouldn't be disturbing. Thanks First Lady. Glad to know you're the smart one in the marriage.

AlBore?

Joe Scarborough makes a suggestion that AlBore should run in 2008.

Are you kidding me? This guy goes all Grizzly Adams after losing the election in 2000, then comes back and goes nuts saying he really won in 2000. Not only is this whacko a hypocrite, but he can't even win his own state.

How the hell can you expect to win an election if people in your own state don't even like you? Of course the hippies in Hollywood love him. But do we really need a bunch of high school drop outs that preach their morals tell you who to vote for?

But of course, they were right in 2004. Quit acting like you're the elitists of the country and start putting out decent movies.

Anyway, back to AlBore... His brainwashing didn't work on me when my wife dragged me to a James Blunt concert that showed his movie between two really crappy performances. So just like everyone said in 2006, This is going to be a bad year for hurricanes. Yes, that record snowfall here in sure was a fluke.

AlBore, stick to your tin foil hat theories, and show the democrats that pissed off liberals don't win elections. Maybe that hat is on too tight?

Then again, go ahead and run. Maybe in 2008, you guys can put up another terrible candidate that couldn't win against a rock. When are you democrats going to wake up?

Meaningless Poll Update

Obama rises, McCain slumps.

How bad off is John McCain right now? He isn't getting any younger. He's basically sold himself out to appease the Evangelical right and he's still losing to support to the pro-gay rights, pro-abortion, pro-infidelity Republican from New York City?

Meanwhile Hillary's massive advantage with black voters has taken a major downward turn despite being well thought of by that community. Still that can't be unexpected given that Obama is black and has a better chance of winning than say...Strom Thurmond's great grandnephew...

Hillary will try to remain within shouting distances of Obama for the black vote while keeping a close eye on the white women votes too...because they can be back-stabbing bitches.

Yep, Some of Us Work...

...It's real easy for Dave to get the first post in this collaboration while I continue to work and pay taxes like a good leftist in order to continue to provide the funds for America to remain the country that gives everyone...and I mean everyone...an opportunity to be great.

As you can see, the Sidebar is forever expanding and will continue to do so in the next few days as I add Newspapers and Online News to the list of links.

Until then, I can't disagree with Dave on many things outside of his description of John Edwards, who always struck fear in the right by mentioning such taboo ideas like -- universal health care and fair wages and upward mobility for low-income families.

That John Edwards...a real scary guy.

Meanwhile Dave is right on a few things. Namely that 2006 should be a wake-up call for Republicans everywhere. Now don't call me crazy but I don't think the White House respects a wake-up call, hell they don't respect written documents like...The Constitution so why should they respect a wake-up call.

The Democrats are pitting their two heavy hitters against each other -- Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. There was no getting around this one as Obama had too much momentum stemming from 2004 not to run and Hillary has long since earmarked 2008 as "her" year. As always the concern when you put two pit bulls against, the Democrats should be concerned that they will eliminate each other.

The good thing is there's a lot of depth in the party. Guys like the aforementioned Edwards or Governor Bill Richardson are likable, electable candidates who will enjoy the Hillary-Obama fray and hope to gather enough electorates to stay alive.

And that's what it's all about in the 2008 race. Staying Alive.

The first word

I happily beat my Democrat friend to the punch and get the honor of the first post.

I'm amazed I didn't burst any blood vessels during the 2004 election year. I felt that the Republicans gave the Donkeys a first-class ticket to the White House, but opted for a Lurch type candidate that would give my kid a nightmare. I honestly thought about voting for John Edwards instead of Bush, and was surprised when a No-Name Lurch looking guy pulls out of the primaries.

Then all of the sudden this pretty boy Edwards who initially I thought would actually be a candidate with a positive message turned all "democrat" and spewed the same hate filled speech that I feel ultimately killed Lurch.

2006 should be a wake up call to Republicans, and I'm beginning to question the leadership of my party. What will 2008 bring and which leaders will rise to the occasion? I'm not sure, but I hope this time to have an open mind to all candidates. Well, almost all.

Some things to consider... If Iowa and New Hampshire didn't determine the candidate for 2004, would we be seeing Howard Dean as the president? Wouldn't have McCain been the winner in 2000?

Why the hell do a couple of stupid states get to determine who the candidates are? How stupid is that? By the time it gets around to my hick state, Indiana, the primaries are basically useless. I can go through and pick a few candidates for local office I've never heard of, but I'm proud to be able to cast a vote. I'll never miss an election, ever. For all of you who don't vote, quit bitching about it.

It will be a fun ride, and look forward to all the views from the other side.
